Purpose:

This policy outlines the process for conducting Developmental Staff Reviews (DSA) for Assistant Principals, Religious Education Coordinators & Coordinators.

Policy:

The DSA process encourages discussion between a staff member and his/her Principal. The DSA interview provides a forum for discussing the Assistant Principal's, Religious Education Coordinator's and Coordinator's goals/objectives for his/her position and relevant Professional Development by:

  • Identifying indicators of success
  • Discussing factors that stand in the way of effective performance
  • Providing a formal event for recognition of good performance.

All Assistant Principals, Religious Education Coordinators and Coordinators should participate in an annual DSA in the years that they do not undertake an appointment renewal review.

Procedures:

The processes detailed in the Developmental Staff Appraisal policy are relevant to the processes below.

1. Assistant Principals

1.1 School-based developmental staff appraisal processes provide an opportunity for Assistant Principals to review their own work in the school and also to increase knowledge and understanding and to develop skills in managing such processes with other staff.

1.2 Assistant Principals, as part of an annual developmental staff appraisal process, should discuss their professional development needs with their Principal and plan their professional development for the coming year.

2. RECs and Coordinators

2.1 Developmental staff appraisal processes will be developed with the team for which the REC / Coordinator is responsible.

2.2 Programs may be developed specifically for RECs / Coordinators to reflect on aspects of their role and to share insights and strategies.

2.3 In addition to these strategies RECs / Coordinators may work with their Principals and / or Assistant Principals in the preparation and implementation of a professional development plan.

2.4 These opportunities for formative review will support the REC / Coordinator in preparing for appointment review.
