Purpose:

The purpose of this policy it to alert staff members to ACT community care dental services available to school aged children in the ACT.

Policy:

The Catholic Education Office encourages schools and their families to access The Child and Youth Dental Health Program provided by the ACT government through ACT Community Care.

The Catholic Education Office allows schools to invite or permit health or education officers from ACT Community Care to promote dental health and hygiene within Archdiocesan systemic schools. Parents /carers must be informed and give consent before inclusion of their children in screening or inspection programs.

The Child and Youth Dental Membership Scheme
ACT Community Health provides a range of dental services for under school age, primary school children and young people under the Child and Youth Dental Membership Scheme.

Procedures:

1. Full details of services available through The Child and Youth Dental Membership Scheme are available by visiting the program's website: http://www.health.act.gov.au .

2. Principals may contact The Child and Youth Dental Health Program administrator by phoning the regional ACT Office listed on the website: http://www.health.act.gov.au .

3. Prior to any treatment or screening of students by the health workers parents / carers must be fully informed and sign consent forms provided by ACT Community Care.
